What is BitSized's Discord video compressor?

BitSized is a free, browser-based video compressor built for Discord. It shrinks any video to a target file size you choose — 10MB, 20MB, 50MB, up to 1GB, or a custom cap — using the same H.264 codec Discord plays natively. Everything runs on your own device with WebAssembly, so your video is never uploaded to a server, never watermarked, and never waiting in a queue.

Features

Smart target-size mode

Choose Discord Free, Nitro Basic, Nitro, or any custom MB limit. BitSized reads your video's duration and computes the exact video bitrate needed to land under the cap — no trial-and-error re-encodes.

100% private, in-browser processing

Powered by ffmpeg.wasm (WebAssembly). Your file is read, compressed, and saved locally. No uploads, no cloud processing, no accounts, and nothing stored — close the tab and it's gone.

No watermark, ever

The output is a clean, standard MP4 (H.264 + AAC) that plays in Discord's built-in player. We add nothing to your video — no logos, no intros, no branding overlays.

Batch queue

Queue up a whole gaming session's worth of clips. BitSized processes them one by one with per-file progress, so you can set a dozen clips compressing and walk away.

Before / after preview

Watch the original and the compressed result side by side before you download, so you can check quality with your own eyes — not just trust a number.

Resolution & audio control

Keep the source resolution or step down to 1080p / 720p / 480p to save more space. Keep audio at 96 kbps AAC or mute it entirely to squeeze out every last kilobyte.

How it compares to online converters

Most "free video compressor" sites upload your file to their server, process it on shared hardware, and hand it back — sometimes watermarked, sometimes metered behind a signup wall. BitSized takes the opposite architecture: everything runs on your device, so privacy isn't a promise, it's physics.

How to compress a video for Discord

  1. 1

Drag your video onto the drop zone (or click to browse) and wait for the file details to appear.

  2. 2

Pick a target size: Discord Free (20MB, the current free limit), Safe 10MB, Nitro Basic (50MB), Nitro (up to 1GB), or type a custom MB cap.

  3. 3

Optionally choose a resolution cap (1080p/720p/480p) and whether to keep audio — muting audio saves roughly 12 KB per second.

  4. 4

Press Compress. The engine loads once (about 25MB, then cached by your browser) and your video is compressed locally with a live progress bar.

  5. 5

Preview the before/after result, then hit Download and attach the file in Discord — it will play inline in chat.
